Tips and Tricks for Transporting Gardening Materials
Spring is the perfect time to get outside and plant your garden. However, one of the most important parts of maintaining a quality garden is the way you transport materials there. We’ve put together a list of tips for transporting gardening materials, ensuring your plants last longer and that the interior of your car stays clean.
According to Gardening Know How, timing is everything. You don’t want to plant in the summer or during the middle of the day, as temperatures can cause plants to dehydrate and fail. Early spring, in the morning or on an overcast day, are the best times to transport and plant materials.
Next, keep your car clean by putting down a tarp or sheet. It’s best to have a waterproof material that won’t allow water or mud to affect the upholstery. If you drive a truck, try to go slow and cover plants if possible, as wind damage is a serious concern for trees and bushes.
While transporting materials, be sure to stop every two hours or so if you go long distances. Plants need to be watered frequently. When moving the root system, keep the soil intact to create a ball of soil. This is what needs watered.
Finally, when you arrive be sure to remove any broken leaves or twigs. Clean your car with a vacuum as soon as possible to get rid of any loose soil.
