Here at Rivard Buick GMC, we have a great selection of family-oriented trucks and SUVs to choose from. We’ve outlined some of the key advantages of trucks and SUVs to help you make the right decision for your family in Tampa Bay.
Towing performance is one of the most distinct advantages that trucks have over SUVs. Many trucks come with a towing package to further enhance the vehicle’s pulling strength. So, if your family has a camper, some rec vehicles, or a boat to transport, then go with a truck.
Another benefit is that trucks have a spacious truck bed for transporting any possessions, landscaping equipment, or home improvement materials. Granted, full-size SUVs can have generous interior space for people and things. But a truck is the better choice if your family has sharp, heavy, and/or dirty objects to transport — especially if you prefer to keep the cabin clean and clutter-free for passengers.
SUVs typically have more passenger space than trucks. Smaller SUVs can accommodate up to five people, on par with extended cab truck configurations, while larger SUVs can fit as many as eight passengers. So, if you have a large family to chauffeur around Florida, an SUV makes a better choice.
Maneuverability is another strength that SUVs have over trucks. They tend to have a tighter turning radius than trucks do and a slightly shorter frame, which makes them less stressful to drive in traffic or in cramped parking lot scenarios.
Still not sure whether to go with a truck or SUV? Stop by Rivard Buick GMC to browse our inventory in person. We’ll help you pick the right truck or SUV to fit your family’s budget, lifestyle, and preferences.
It’s common knowledge that oil changes are an important part of car care. But what type of oil is right for the particular model that you drive? Here are a few pointers for choosing the right motor oil for your vehicle. However, we recommend starting with your vehicle’s owner manual to see which type of oil the automaker recommends for your particular make and model.
Primary oil types for your car
Conventional oil is the most economical choice when the time comes for an oil change. It’s comprised of crude oil that’s been refined during the manufacturing process. Synthetic blend oil is oil that has fewer impurities due to chemical engineering processes. Though once more common for performance vehicles, it’s now a pretty common engine oil that many newer models were designed to use.
Two other options you can go with are synthetic blend and high mileage oil. The former is a combination of conventional and synthetic that’s a cheaper alternative if you don’t need synthetic but want something a step up from conventional oil for your ride. High mileage oil can be pricier than synthetic but can be worth the expense if you want to extend the life of an older vehicle. This oil type has additives that not only boost engine performance but also prevent leaks and restore seals to keep your well-traveled car running smoothly.
Two more tips about oil changes
Oil type isn’t the only thing to consider when it comes to oil changes. Check your car’s owner manual to see what viscosity grade the oil you go with should have. And make sure to check the manual for the automaker’s recommended oil change frequency, since some vehicles might need more frequent oil changes than others.
Still not sure which engine oil your car needs? Or simply want to save yourself some time and avoid the mess? Contact Rivard Buick GMC in Tampa Bay, Florida, to schedule your vehicle’s next oil change.

The wait for more information is officially over thanks to a Chinese General Motors affiliate that recently released a number of gorgeous images depicting the upcoming Envision’s interior. Though the photos from SAIC depict how the Chinese variant of the restyled 2021 Envision will look, it’s safe to assume that the American version of the SUV will have a relatively similar design story.
Based on the pictures released by SAIC, the 2021 Envision’s cabin is extremely bright and airy thanks to wide windshields, passenger windows, and a magnificent dual-panel moonroof that bathes the interior in natural light. Last year, automakers spent nearly $5 billion on television ads and amassed over 416 billion impressions, making the industry the biggest one for both spend and impressions across all TV advertising. But the big winner was Buick, who had the most-viewed car commercial of 2019.
The spot, dubbed “Mistaken Identity,” generated 5.7 million TV ad impressions with an estimated spend of $31.7 million.
“Mistaken Identity” features virtually every model in Buick’s lineup, including the popular Enclave, LaCrosse, Regal GS, and Encore Preferred. It highlights the versatility of the lineup, from its utility to its premium style.
More than anything, the ad puts the exciting, new design of modern Buick vehicles in the spotlight — and clearly, this resonated well with audiences. Getting the most-viewed car commercial of 2019, or any year, is no small feat.
It may seem like a lot that Buick spent $31.7 million to get those 5.7 million TV ad impressions, but the automaker wasn’t even the biggest spender in 2019 when it came to advertising. The most expensive car commercial of 2019 cost $60.4 million. That Buick’s spot generated so many impressions with so much less is further evidence of the strength of the ad.
If “Mistaken Identity” has you curious about Buick’s modern lineup, visit Rivard Buick GMC to get a better look!
For the first time in nearly 20 years, General Motors is adding a three-cylinder engine to its American lineup. This new engine will find its home in the all-new 2020 Buick Encore GX and will be available in either 1.2- or 1.3-liter displacements. Both options will be turbocharged.
With their turbochargers, these engines will deliver more than enough power for the Encore GX. Although GM hasn’t officially released output numbers, we can look at other GM three-cylinder engines available globally. In the Korean version of the Malibu, its 1.3-liter three-cylinder engine produces 156 horsepower and 174 lb-ft of torque. If the new engine gets a similar rating, it will be on par with larger, four-cylinder engines.
The last time General Motors offered a three-cylinder engine was for the now-defunct Geo Metro in 2000. That engine only produced 55 horsepower, proving how far GM’s technology and engineering have come in the last two decades.
Along with its new engine, the Buick Encore GX will offer ample interior space, including 25.3 cubic feet of cargo room, making it significantly larger than the standard Encore. The Encore GX will also come standard with a variety of advanced safety features, including automatic emergency braking.
We can’t wait to see you here at Rivard Buick GMC when the new Encore GX finally hits roads in 2020.
The GMC Sierra 1500 was just completely redesigned for the 2019 model year. However, it is set to receive a number of exciting improvements in 2021, most significantly in the interior. The 2021 GMC Sierra’s cabin will feel more luxurious than ever before with upscale appointments and advanced technology.
Some automotive writers felt that the 2019 Sierra’s interior didn’t quite match the sophistication of the rest of the vehicle. GMC is responding to that feedback with action; promising an interior as advanced and capable as the Sierra itself.
According to some reports, the 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 will come with a completely redesigned center console that will feature a larger touchscreen and a more sophisticated design.
General Motors has yet to confirm what specific updates will make an appearance in the Sierra. We hope to see features like additional storage compartments, an available panoramic sunroof, and more connectivity features like Amazon Alexa compatibility.
With the addition of updated interior features, we think the GMC Sierra 1500 will once again raise the bar for what can be expected in a pickup truck. It currently offers class-leading cargo volume, six impressive powertrain options, the segment-exclusive available MultiPro tailgate, and the always formidable Denali model. With a more modern interior, you won’t want to drive anything else.
If you’re as excited as we are to see what GMC has up their sleeve for the refreshed 2021 GMC Sierra 1500, then we can’t wait to see you here at Rivard Buick GMC when it finally makes its way out into the wild.

Pete: St. Petersburg is right outside Tampa and has plenty to fill several day trips. Spend some time on the beach, go shopping and dining downtown, or do a little of both. A visit is not complete without a trip to the Dali Museum and Sunken Gardens.
Siesta Key Beach: About an hour south of Tampa, just outside Sarasota, is Siesta Key Beach, regularly considered one of the top beaches in the state. For some real fun, rent a jet ski or take a dolphin tour on the water.
Myakka River State Park: If you are the outdoorsy type, consider what is one of Florida’s oldest and largest parks, with beautiful prairies and wetlands to explore on foot, by bike, or by boat. Consider fishing and camping overnight if you are feeling really adventurous.
Walt Disney World: Just an hour northeast of Tampa is the happiest place on earth. You can easily spend weeks at Disney World and not see it all, but given our close location, it also makes for several great day trips, so you don’t have to pay to stay overnight.
The GMC Sierra 1500 was completely redesigned for the 2019 model year. However, it is already getting some equipment changes for 2020. Updates for the 2020 GMC Sierra 1500 will include greater availability of powertrain options and more technology.
Late in the 2019 model year, GMC introduced the CarbonPro carbon-fiber bed and the 3.0-liter Duramax® turbodiesel engine. Both of these options will be more available across the lineup. The powerful 5.3-liter V8 engine with Dynamic Fuel Management will come with a 10-speed automatic transmission instead of an eight-speed. The 10-speed transmission will also be offered on the 3.0-liter and 6.2-liter engines.
Buyers will also be able to add the Enhanced ProGrade Trailering system that comes with 15 cameras. These cameras include the innovative “invisible” trailer effect that lets you see what’s coming up behind your trailer. Adaptive cruise control will also be a new option, available on the SLT, AT4, and Denali trim levels and will be able to bring the truck to a complete stop.
GMC will also be expanding its package options. The Elevation trim package will be available on Crew Cab models. Before it was restricted to just Double Cab models. In addition, the AT4 package will come with black exhaust tips and a black chrome grille surround.
