New Wave of Scholarships for Buick Achievers Program

Buick LogoBuick doesn’t make vehicles and sell vehicles in a vacuum. When a company gets to be as large as Buick, it can be easy to see it as aloof. Then you see what Buick is doing with its Buick Achievers program, and it reminds you that the automaker is very much an integral part of the community.

The Buick Achievers Program began four years ago. Designed to help those in need and also infuse the nation’s STEM fields with new life, the program has thus far donated $28 million to help young people obtain a college degree since its inception. Thirty-four hundred people have benefitted from Buick’s philanthropy so far.

Now, Buick has announced that it is donating another $1.2 million towards the program. Fifty applicants will be selected and receive up to $25,000 a year to help each achieve their dream of attending college. Students are eligible to apply for scholarships after high school or any year that they are enrolled in college.

Spring Cleaning for Your Car

Car CleaningHere are a few tips to help you with spring cleaning for your car.

  1. Throw away the trash. Open up all the doors and your trunk. Bring along a trash bag and a box. Put the trash into the bag and anything you want to keep into the box.
  2. Wipe down hard surfaces. Starting from the top down, clean all the hard surfaces in your car.
  3. Vacuum. Remove the floor mats. You can give these a good beating to remove the caked-on winter grime and then vacuum them. Vacuum all the carpeting and seats.
  4. Clean the upholstery. If you have leather seats, be sure to use the correct cleaning product and wipe down the entire seat. For cloth seats, spot-clean as needed.
  5. Power wash the floor mats. (Optional). If you floor mats and still incredibly dirty, get out your power washer or hose and spray them down. Be sure they are completely dry before you put them back in your car.
  6. Wash your car. Once the inside is spic and span, it’s time to whip the exterior into shape. Don’t forget to clean from the top down. For the underbody, you can run through an automatic car wash.

Once your car is all clean, take it out for a drive to enjoy its dirt free state.

Buick Cascada Water Testing Ensures A Dry, Year-Round Car

Buick CascadaPick up a convertible from Buick and you’d hopefully have no doubt that the car was absolutely waterproof. But sometimes, it’s nice to see just what kind of quality control measures an automaker might exact to ensure this was the case.

In a recent spot, Buick shows us firsthand just what the new Buick Cascada goes through to ensure that the Cascada’s soft top is watertight. It’s important because, as the host of the commercial says, “The Cascada is designed to be a year-round car, not just a summer plaything.”

When the Buick Cascada rolls off the line, it enters a water chamber where the walls and ceiling are covered in water nozzles. Each of these nozzles sprays 1.9 gallons of water per minute for ten minutes. It may seem like overkill but anything worth doing is worth doing right. Right?

We understand if you are concerned about how green a process the Buick Cascada water testing really is, in light of how much water is involved. Fret not, tree-hugger. Of the 130,000 gallons of water that is used every day, 98.5% is recycled.

GMC Canyon Ousts Competitors to Win Midsize Pickup Challenge

GMC CanyonWe at Rivard Buick GMC have been excited about the arrival of the GMC Canyon mid-size pickup since we heard its design was in the works. Admittedly, we are a tad biased, but winning awards like the Midsize Pickup Challenge validate our claims that GMC’s all-new truck is worth some serious consideration.

The truck was chosen by the editors of as winner of the competition after undergoing tests in performance, ergonomics, tech and entertainment, ride quality, and a host of other categories. At the end of test day, the Canyon came out on top of its three mid-size competitors.

“The GMC Canyon scored well throughout our tests, and offered a capable and luxurious ride and feel that clearly separated the GMC from the rest of the pack,” said Mark Williams, Pickup Truck editor for

All-new for 2015, the Canyon offers segment best power at 200 hp and efficiency at an EPA-estimated 27 mpg highway with 2WD. Pricing begins at just $20,955.

Like we said, it is definitely worth a visit to our dealership to take a closer look at what the mid-size Canyon has to offer.

Introducing the 2016 Enclave Tuscan Design: Luxury and Performance Come Together

Buick EnclaveAs the latest from the Buick labs, the new Enclave Tuscan Edition is sporting several innovative features. Aside from that, the new model was completely redesigned to feature such things as a bronze-toned grill, 20-inch chrome wheels, and bronze accents.

The 2016 Enclave Tucson design is definitely one of its defining characteristics. According to Buick, the new model has a wood-trimmed steering wheel (which is heated), leather trim, Buick IntelliLink, Tri-zone climate control, a power liftgate and more.

“Buick’s quality, refinement, and style continue to attract more customers and this modern resurgence started with Enclave,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president of Buick. “It was a pioneer for three-row luxury crossovers and remains one of the segment’s most popular. The new Tuscan Edition celebrates Enclave’s achievement and rewards owners with a higher level of distinction.”

On top of a new design, the Tuscan Edition also comes with optional AWD, powered by a 3.6-liter V6 that cranks out 288 hp. In addition to plenty of power, the new model also gets 24 highway mpg.

Buick and GMC Rank High in Dealer Service Satisfaction

LogoFor the second year running, Buick was ranked highest in dealer service satisfaction in the J.D. Power U.S. Customer Service Index (CSI), among 19 other mass-market automotive brands. GMC came in fourth on the list.

The study measures service satisfaction among owners and lessees of one- to five-year-old vehicles in the United States by focusing on five service areas, including quality, initiation, advisor, facility, and vehicle pick-up (in order of importance).

Buick was ranked first with 836 points out of a possible 1,000 while GMC was ranked fourth with 807 points. Between them were MINI and Volkswagen. They ranked significantly higher than the mass-market brand average, and Buick even scored higher than three luxury brands.

“Superior reliability, quality and customer service is core to every model we bring to market,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president of Buick. “Leading the market in service satisfaction demonstrates that we and our dealers continue to deliver on that commitment.”

In other words, when you visit Rivard Buick GMC, you can expect luxury dealership levels of service!

Yukon’s Conversation Mirror Reflects Good Parenting

Yukon InteriorWhen you’re behind the wheel, it’s easy to remember that you’re not just supposed to be monitoring the world outside your car—you’ve also got to monitor what’s going on inside it. That holds especially true if you’re a parent with kids in the backseat. Since a staggering 30% of all Yukon and Yukon XL drivers have children under the age of 16, the engineers though it might be prudent to add a conversation mirror to those models.

The Yukon’s conversation mirror is standard on all 2015 models. It works quite easily: the driver pushes once on the mirror compartment, which is housed in the overhead console’s sunglass holder, and the eyeglass holder can be accessed. Then the driver partially closes the compartment until the mirror latches into place, and voila! You have full view of the second and third seats, just in case your kids don’t believe the whole “eyes in the back of the head” thing.

The engineers of the Yukon and Yukon XL knew that integrating this feature into the models was important from personal experience. One product manager for the models, Kay Jarboe, commented, “As a mom, when it came time to design the next-generation Yukon and Yukon XL, I wanted to give our customers a better way of keeping tabs on their kids without forcing them to turn around and take their eyes off the road.”

Until now, conversation mirrors were often aftermarket accessories, meaning that they weren’t fully integrated into the vehicle’s design. The new Yukon models, however, are designed specifically to include these mirrors, meaning they’ve been optimized for a full field of rear vision.

Come test out the new Yukon and Yukon XL at your favorite Tampa GMC dealership today—and bring the kiddies along with you!

The New GMC Campaign Reaches a New Level of Skill

GMCThe brand new GMC campaign is turning its focus toward a new skill in accuracy: Precision. By definition, precision is the quality, condition, or fact of being exact. The Precision campaign will showcase the refined detail it takes to build GMC cars and trucks, while relating it to the skill and expertise of sports and well-made suits.

The campaign will be launched as a three part series. The first TV commercial, “Fastball,” will feature World Series Champion and San Francisco Giants pitcher, Jeremy Affeldt. The commercial correlates throwing a “Rembrandt” (painting the corner of the plate with a strike) and creating a beautiful car as taking the same kind of precision and craftsman ship.

The second commercial, “Swish,” features Harrison Barnes of the NBA’s Golden State Warriors making the perfect shot, nothing but net. And finally, the third commercial, “Sharp,” displays the skill it takes to create the perfect suit.

Each commercial plays upon the theme that precision is a pertinent skill when creating something that is, in fact, exact or precise.
